M.S.W - Master of Social Work

The department of social work individuals for professional social work practice and leadership in human services through its social work curriculum. The future employment outlook is strong for social workers. Social workers practice in schools, businesses, hospitals, Industrial counseling, Psychiatric Social Work. Family Counseling, child Welfare and Admission of NGOs, public welfare, and criminal justice agencies- With a host of emerging employment settings likely to develop in coming years. Our MSW course is two years full time four semester program with specialization in community development, family and child welfare, medical and Psychiatric Social work.

Eligibility

Candidates seeking admission for MSW course shall be required to possess either a Bachelor's Degree from Mahatma Gandhi University or a Degree recognized as equivalent thereto with 50% marks in aggregate for Part l, ll & lll. 5C/5T candidates need only a pass in the qualifying examination.  Candidates appearing for final year degree examinations in March/April are also eligible to apply for admission to the course, provided they should produce the proof of qualification on the date of counseling.

Master of Social Work
MSW programme aims to build committed and dynamic youth in imparting participatory development at community level, Government level, Non- Governmental level, policy level, law and in the overall progress of the country.

MSW programme will provide training in practice of professional social work in broad areas followed by theoretical knowledge and skills in specialized fields of practice. The programme provides students with a choice of engaging with various areas including rural and urban community development; mental health; disability; children and youth; criminology and correctional social work; social justice and government. Along with classroom teaching, all students will undertake field work throughout the two years of study; as well as rural practicum and a study tour. Students will also have to take a research project towards the final semester of the programme. The Master of Social Work programme conducted by the Jai Bharath School of Social work offers the following three specializations:

    • Medical & Psychiatric Social Work
    • Family & Child Welfare
    • Rural & Urban Community Development.
